AAWOs’ SEMINAR AND TRAINING – JAN 09

This year, the Assistant Area Welfare Officers’ (AAWOs) Seminar and Training was held over the period 11 – 19 Jan 09 at HQ GWS, B G Pokhara. The main aim of the seminar was to update AAWOs on GWS operating procedure and enhance their IT skills. All 39 AAWOs from 20 AWCs participated in the week-long seminar and training.

Lt Col A P M Griffi th RGR, Field Director GWS opened the seminar by presenting the GWS overview and his directive for AAWOs. It was then followed by various useful briefi ngs and updates by the relevant Dept Heads. In the later part of the seminar, AAWOs attended a 5-day comprehensive IT training in a local Computer Institute coordinated by the IT Cell. The conference concluded on the afternoon of 19 Jan 09 with the closing address by the Deputy Field Director GWS, Hon Maj Krishnabahadur Gurung MVO MBE.

In order to entertain the AAWOs during their stay in Pokhara, various sporting activities were also arranged everyday which gave them ample opportunity to show off their skills as well as to improve their fi tness. The sports afternoon on 14 Jan was dedicated to the Jeffery Cup Football Competition. This was the fi rst year that the Jeffery Cup was competed for by the AAWOs having previously been held exclusively among AWOs. In 2008 the AWOs stated their wish for their younger assistants to carry on competing for the Cup.
